What we are known for
Keepsakes, gatherings, and a calm, friendly presence.
Beyond nursing and symptom care, two programs shape what Oak Grove is known for. Each is offered to every patient and family in our care, adapted to today’s energy.
The Legacy Program
A menu of keepsakes and gatherings
Choose one, choose several, or let your team suggest where to begin. Everything here is adapted to today's energy and made to be kept.
In your own words
- The Life Story Sessions: a trained listener records two to four relaxed conversations about your life. Families receive the audio and a bound transcript.
- Letters for Later: written or dictated, to be opened on days you choose: a wedding, a graduation, an eighteenth birthday.
- Messages in Your Voice: a bedtime story for a grandchild, a birthday message, the way you laugh. Saved for the family.
- The Recipe Book: your dishes, in your handwriting where possible, with the stories that go with them.
By your hand
- Hand & fingerprint keepsakes: ink and clay impressions, single or layered with children's and grandchildren's hands. Gentle enough for any day.
- The Memory Box: photographs, fabric, medals, ticket stubs, arranged into one box that tells it.
- Quilts, keepsake bears & fingerprint charms: made by local craftspeople and jewelers we can introduce you to. Arranged directly with the maker; we take no fee.
Heard & kept
- Heartbeat Recording: recorded gently at a routine visit, saved as audio, alone or set beneath a song your family chooses.
- The Family Playlist: the songs of your life, with the stories of where you were when.
Together
- The Table Talk: a guided family conversation. Laughter expected; tissues provided.
- Blessing & gratitude ceremonies: vow renewals, blessings of grandchildren, words of forgiveness and thanks, a veteran's pinning, in your tradition.
- The Family Tree Page: your family's names and stories on one illustrated page, checked with you while the details are still yours to give.
- Remembrance: after a loss: our annual remembrance gathering and a hand-addressed card on the first anniversary.
Paws for Comfort
A calm, friendly presence
Gentle, well-mannered dogs and their volunteer handlers visit patients who would welcome a calm, friendly presence. A visit is a reason to smile, a hand on soft fur, and a few minutes that are not about illness. Visits are scheduled around the patient's energy and always at the family's request; if anyone in the home is allergic or would rather not, that is the end of the conversation.

To begin
Ask your doctor for a referral, or call us first. Once care begins, mention any program to your nurse, social worker, or chaplain, or call (317) 558-9305 (toll-free 1-888-321-4202), answered day and night. Every offering is part of our care.
